Libra

recipe by Ricky Wang

Represented by the scales of justice, libras are all about balance. They like to maintain an equilibrium in all aspects of life, enjoying work as much as play and cultivating harmonious relationships that never swing too far to any extreme. Their social intelligence often casts them in the role of the charming, peacekeeping glue that holds the group dynamic together. This is generally a very positive attribute, winning them a diverse array of friends from all walks of life, and bringing lots of beauty and joy into their world. But every gift comes with a price, and Libras should take care not to fall into people pleasing or spreading themselves too thin. A solid self-care regimen can help bring these socially-oriented air signs back down to Earth and reconnect them to their own sense of self.

As one of the cocktails featured in our Watcher mixology competition, our Libra cocktail – the “Miami Vice” – pulls out all the stops. A unique spin on a daiquiri topped with pina colada-flavored whipped cream, this frosty tropical hybrid is the ultimate choice for chilling out. It’s pretty complex, but if you’re up for a challenge, it’s worth it. Otherwise, you can watch pro-mixologist (and Libra) Ricky Wang whip it up here.

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp Rum
  • 1 fl oz Key lime juice
  • 1 fl oz Simple Syrup

Directions

1

Fat-wash your rum with ghee: Add 1.5 cups of white rum and roughly 2 Tbsp. of ghee butter to a jar. Seal, then shake vigorously to agitate. Freeze overnight, then strain out the fat through a coffee filter when ready to use.

2

Infuse your lemongrass rum: Remove the outer layer of the lemongrass stalk, then smash with a muddler to loosen fibers. Cut the stalk into 1 ½-inch pieces, then add to a jar with 1.5 cups white rum. Seal the lid and allow to infuse overnight.

3

Make pina colada whipped cream: Add 2 oz lemongrass rum, 1.5oz pineapple juice, and 1.5 oz coconut cream to a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain into a whipped cream canister and add ¾ cup heavy whipping cream. Shake the canister vigorously. Refrigerate.

4

In a magic bullet®, combine: Ice, 2 oz ghee-washed white rum, key lime juice, simple syrup, and ube powder. Blend until combined, but still frosty, about 30 seconds.

5

Pour into your glass of choice, top with pina colada whipped cream and garnish with glittered cherries.

Enjoy!
